The invention relates to a method for producing a discharge lamp, comprising the following steps: a) a panel-type upper part (2) and a panel-type lower part (3) are provided, at least one region of the upper part (2) and/or the lower part (3) being made of a light-transmitting material; b) a luminescent layer (21, 31) is applied to one surface (2a, 3a) of the upper part (2) and/or the lower part (3); c) a plurality of spacer elements (4a, 4b, 5a, 5b) are placed between the upper part (2) and the lower part (3), said parts (2, 3) being interspaced in such a way that the luminescent layer (21, 31) faces the other part (2, 3); d) any incorporated water in or water deposits on the luminescent layer (21, 31) are removed by the creation of a gaseous stream (6), which flows between the upper part (2) and the lower part (3); e) a gas-tight connection is created on the continuous edge (13, 14, 15, 16) of the upper part (2) and the lower part (3).
