PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a carbon particulate by which production equipment can be made compact and a large quantity of carbon particulate containing fullerene can be produced with high yield and in a simple manner. SOLUTION: The method for producing the carbon particulate comprises introducing a mixture of a hydrocarbon compound and hydrogen, and an oxygen-containing gas into a reaction furnace 2 and causing the combustion reaction by hydrogen, a part of hydrocarbon compound and oxygen to produce a hot gas of 1,200 to 2,000°C comprised of carbon dioxide and steam while causing the thermal decomposition reaction of the remaining hydrocarbon compound which is introduced into the reaction furnace 2 under a reduced pressure atmosphere of 90 kPa or lower by utilizing the heat of the hot gas.
