PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a pyroligneous acid containing no harmful material and holding quality of a fixed level. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the pyroligneous acid includes: a step 1 for producing chips from a raw material wood including a pyroligneous acid component; a step 2 for adjusting the water content of the chipped raw material wood in a prescribed value; a step 3 for heating the raw material wood whose moisture content is adjusted and adjusting the temperature of smoke so as to be 140 to 170°C to generate the smoke; a step 4 for cooling the smoke to gather a raw pyroligneous acid; a step 6 for distilling and separating the raw pyroligneous acid; and a step 7 for cooling a distilled and separated component to acquire a refined pyroligneous acid.
