PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal discriminator for discriminating signals which performs more appropriate signal processing in accordance with a signal source and state of an input video signal. SOLUTION: In a pattern analysis part 153 inside the signal discrimination part 15, correspondence or non-correspondence between motion amounts A(i), B(i) among video signals Din and a motion amount pattern p(i) is obtained. In a main discrimination part 154, on the basis of obtained correspondence or non-correspondence, a signal source of the video signal Din is discriminated while taking into account certainty of discrimination or uncertainty of discrimination.
