<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid discarding a pencil with a portion which is left unused. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Recessed face conical machining is performed on the approximately 40-50 mm rear end of a pencil that is likely to be left unused, projected face conical machining is performed on the rear end of another pencil, and the two rear ends are joined to make the pencils useable endlessly. Also, a machine and a tool are used, which perform both recessed face conical machining and projected face conical machining on both ends of the pencil.
