<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell capable of suppressing fuel leakage and oxidizer leakage without using a tightening member, and to provide a fuel cell stack. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell has: a membrane-electrode assembly having a cathode electrode, an electrolyte membrane, and an anode electrode in this order; and an anode current collector layer. The anode current collector layer has a pair of first walls which are provided so as to be along the opposed two sides, and the membrane-electrode assembly is engaged between the pair of first walls, so that the anode electrode and the anode current collector layer faces each other.
