<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a gate from being unintendedly closed when the gate is opened by a width sufficient for a passing object to pass therethrough, the gate being not completely closed or completely opened. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This gate locking device 100 for maintaining the closed state of the slide gate 500 having a wheel 504 on the underside includes a sloped section 102 which is disposed at one or more intermediate positions on the path of the wheel 504 and which has an inclination in the closing direction of the gate 500 and a locking section 104 having a step in the opening direction of the gate. The inclination section 102 facilitates the movement of the wheel in the opening direction beyond the gate locking device by allowing the wheel to ride over the gate locking device when the gate is opened. The locking section 104 makes it difficult for the wheel to move in the closing direction beyond the gate locking device by the abutment thereof on the wheel when the gate is closed.
