PURPOSE: To provide a process and a system for treating sewage and wastewater, which are able to remove organic materials, suspended solids and phosphorous from the sewage and wastewater with high efficiency and improve a total treating efficiency, by using a membrane bioreactor. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises an anoxic tank (20), a first aerobic tank (40), an intermittent aerobic tank (60) and a second aerobic tank (80). The anoxic tank has an agitator (22) to denitrify pre-treated sewage and wastewater. The first aerobic tank has an aerator (44) that aerobically treats the sewage and wastewater from the anoxic tank to decompose organic materials and nitrify the decomposed organic materials. The intermittent aerobic tank has an aerator (64) that intermittently aerates the treated sewage and wastewater from the first aerobic tank and an agitator (62) for denitrification. The second aerobic tank has an aerator (86) that aerobically treats the sewage and wastewater from the intermittent aerobic tank to decompose organic materials and nitrify the decomposed organic materials.
