<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film and a method for manufacturing a polarizing plate protection film which is better in visual angle property and easier in thinning the film made of cellulose ester than conventional protection film for polarizing plate, and to provide a vertical alignment (VA) type liquid crystal display device using the film. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the protection film is manufactured as follows: zero to 90 mass% cellulose ester the degree of substitution by 2-3 carbon acyl group is ≥2.75 and ≤3.00 and 10 to 100 mass% cellulose ester the degree of substitution by 2-3 carbon acyl group is ≥2.4 and <2.75 are solved in an organic solvent, cast on a rotating belt or drum, peeled from the belt or drum, and further dried by evaporation. In manufacturing the protection film for a vertical alignment (VA) type liquid crystal display, any condition among following conditions should be made a prescribed value: (1) residual amount of solvent in peeling.
