<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detection sensor which can obtain a stable and high-output detection signal, easily detect a desired one from moving quantity, moving speed and absolute position, and be used even in a narrow space, by forming a linear scale pattern using a luminescence part (photoelectric array) of natural light. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A pattern consisting of a high-brightness part 14 and a low-brightness part 16 is formed on the linear scale 10, where the high-brightness part 14 is made of the self-luminous photoelectric array. The sensor part 12 which moves relatively to the linear scale 10 detects the moving quantity, moving speed, absolute position, etc. by receiving light emitted at the high-brightness part 14.
