<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a road gradient with high accuracy, while making a vehicle travel. <P>SOLUTION: A pitch angle in course of travel of the vehicle is detected by using a gyroscope sensor. Moreover, the inclination angle of the vehicle is detected, by detecting the distances between the body of the vehicle and a road surface, at a plurality of spots which are different at positions in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. Based on the deviation of the inclination angle of the vehicle from the pitch angle, the gradient of the road in course of travel is detected. The pitch angle is determined by only the inclination angle of the vehicle and the road gradient, and the pitch angle can be detected with high accuracy by using the gyroscope sensor. Accordingly, the road gradient can be calculated with high accuracy from the deviation of the inclination angle of the vehicle from the pitch angle, by detecting the distances from the road surface in front of and at the back of the vehicle and finding its inclination angle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
