<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring technology applicable to home use and identifying a plurality of states to operate according to each of the states. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This monitoring device includes: a registered sound data storing means for storing registered sound data which are recorded in advance; an action rule storing means for storing action rules in association with the registered sound data; a sound data input means for inputting sound data; a determining means for comparing the input sound data input by the sound data input means with the registered sound data stored in the registered sound data storing means to determine whether the input sound data corresponds to the registered sound data; and an action executing means for reading an action rule corresponding to the registered sound data from the action rule storing means and executing an action based on the action rule when it is determined that the input sound data corresponds to the registered sound data.
