PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly change the display of a map, using a simple operation, and without causing increase in the data amount of a map, when a scale is to be changed. SOLUTION: A map display apparatus 10 includes: a scale setting section (a scale change processing section 13 and a control section 15) setting the scale of map information to be displayed; a map information acquisition section 12 acquiring map information with the set scale from a map information storage section F1; a map information output section 14 outputting the map information acquired by the map information acquisition section 12; and a scale change processing section 13, which receives a request for the change of the set scale and generates one or more pieces of map information with an intermediate scale between before and after scale change of each map information. When the map information with the intermediate scale is generated, a map information display output section (a scale change processing section 13 and a map information output section 14) successively displays the generated map information with an intermediate scale from the map information close to the scale, before the scale change, and displays the map information with the scale, after the scale change.
