PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image projection device for holding a plurality of prism elements with high relative positional accuracy by means of a compact holding mechanism satisfactory in assemblability. SOLUTION: The image projection device has an optical systemβwhich separates colors of light from a light source and guides them to image display elements 61R, 61G, and 61B and which synthesizes rays of color light from the image display elements and guides them to a projection optical system 5. The optical system includes the first and second prism elements 60, 66, and 69. The image projection device includes: a prism connecting member 72 to which each prism element is fixed; and an optical system holding member 31 for holding the optical system such that the prism connecting member is fixed to this member. The prism connecting member has openings 73 in areas 72a and 72b between the first and second prism elements, and is fixed to the optical system holding member by means of fastening members 75 and 76 inserted in the openings.
