<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline direct alcohol fuel cell which is superior in power generating characteristics, and does not receive effect of permeation of alcohol to a cathode side. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This is the alkaline direct alcohol fuel cell which includes an anode having an anode catalyst layer, a cathode having an oxide cathode catalyst layer, and an anion conductive polyelectrolyte film arranged between the anode and the cathode, in which power generation is carried out by supplying alcohol to the anode, and water and oxygen to the cathode, and in which the oxide cathode catalyst layer contains particulates of a prescribed metal oxide as a catalyst.
