The level detection device (1) has an optical light guide bundle provided in a tank (5), where the optical light guide bundle has multiple optic fibers. A fluid volume is measured depending on position data of sensor positions and on the geometric data of the tank. The fluid volume is contained in the tank. A signal parameter modification is detected at the sensor positions. The optic fibers are glass fibers or plastic fibers. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for detecting a level of fluids in a tank; and (2) a computer program for use with a data carrier, for the execution of the detection method.
