PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus equipped with a compact diaphragm mechanism for obtaining magnetic force necessary for turning of a turning body for turning a diaphragm blade and easily controlling magnetic force for turning the turning body. SOLUTION: A variable diaphragm device 1 includes a magnet pin 5, a diaphragm plate 6 turning with the magnet pin 5 as an axis of turning, a magnetic substance core wire 12 holding the magnet pin 5 between a first end 12a and a second end 12b, and a magnetic coil 11 applying turning force from a first magnetic pole part 15 and a second magnetic pole part 16 by holding the magnet pin 5 between the first magnetic pole part 15 and the second magnetic pole part 16, and turning the diaphragm plate 6. The magnetic coil 11 is wound round the magnetic substance core wire 12 so as to provide a first space Y between the magnet pin 5 and the first end 12a and between the magnet pin 5 and the second end 12b and also provide a second space X between the first magnetic pole part 15 and the magnet pin 5 and between the second magnetic pole part 16 and the magnet pin 5.
