PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces the power consumption of a destaticizing device. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with an erasure lamp 16 for removing charge remaining on a surface of a photoreceptor drum 11 after transfer. When a latent image pattern area, formed by exposing the surface of the photoreceptor drum 11 on the basis of image data reaches an irradiation region of the erasing lamp 16, the erasing lamp 16 is turned off, in a region where destatization is not required, by referring to the image data which has been subjected to exposure.
