PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an optical element by which, when an optical element material is formed, deformation of the optical element material during heating can be suppressed and shape and appearance quality in forming can be further improved. SOLUTION: A heating drum 6 in which a spiral groove M1 has been formed is rotated under heating with an induction heating coil 8 to thereby heat an optical element material 1 before forming while retaining its spherical shape.
