PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection control system for a compression ignition type internal combustion engine, capable of making combustion noises approximate those of desired magnitude to a maximum extent. SOLUTION: The fuel injection control system for the internal combustion engine controls a fuel injection timing so that the combustion noises of the compression ignition type internal combustion engine is made to approximate target combustion noises cntrg. The fuel injection timing is controlled in a range where a change of the fuel injection timing is reflected to the magnitude of the combustion noises, whereby the magnitude of the combustion noises are made to approximate the target combustion noises cntrg to a maximum extent.
