HYDROGEN GENERATING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen generation apparatus which can easily control the generation of hydrogen with safety and easy handleability without using expensive metallic catalysts, can store the generated hydrogen and further can supply the hydrogen immediately at operation start of a fuel cell.

SOLUTION: The hydrogen generation apparatus includes: a housing having a hydrogen outlet; a cell module located inside the housing and configared to laminating to a plurality of layers unit cells in which an electrolyte to which a hydride and a catalyst are added is disposed between electrodes; conductive wires which interlink the positive electrodes to each other and interlink the negative electrodes to each other, of the unit cell electrodes rowed in parallel; and a switch of a circuit connecting both conductive wires of the positive and negative electrodes. The apparatus is configured such that the hydride hydrolyzes in each unit cell when closing the switch and generates hydrogen and discharges it from the hydrogen outlet. It is particularly preferable to use MgH2as the hydride and MgCl2as a catalyst.
