PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyphenylene sulfide fiber which has excellent forming processability and can stably be spun for a long period without staining the surface of a nozzle. SOLUTION: Polyphenylene sulfide has a melting point of 280°C and a glass transition temperature of≥85°C, and thereby requires a high spinning temperature. Therefore, impurities or decomposition products originated from resins are adhered to the extraction holes of a nozzle or the like to deteriorate the operability of the nozzle or the like. Thus, low mol.wt. substances of these causing substances are removed and reduced. Namely, the polyphenylene sulfide fiber can continuously and stably be obtained by removing the low molecular substances so that the total value of peak areas in HPLC analysis is <1.4×10<SP>6</SP>.
