PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and economical method of production, excellent in wide applications, for producing deuterated aromatic carboxylic acids without using a special and expensive reagent, simply, in a good efficiency and safely. SOLUTION: This method for producing the deuterated aromatic carboxylic acids is provided by dissolving or suspending the aromatic carboxylic acids containing a phenolic hydroxy group in deuterated water, heating to substitute the hydrogen on the aromatic ring of the aromatic carboxylic acids with deuterium. Heating may be done at 70°C to the boiling point of the deuterated water. The deutrating process of the above heating and removal of the deuterated water may be repeated by a plurality of times.
