<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology on a gravity casting apparatus, which can decide a timing to start cooling of a feeder head more precisely than ever. <P>SOLUTION: The gravity casting apparatus includes a die 12, a second thermocouple 24, a displacement gauge 20 and a cooling device 36. The die 12 has a product cavity 28 and a feeder head cavity 16 which communicates to the product cavity 28 through a communicating hole 26. The second thermocouple 24 measures temperature of molten metal 60 in the boundary between the product cavity 28 and the feeder head cavity 16. A displacement gauge 20 measures hardness of molten metal in the boundary between the product cavity 28 and the feeder head cavity 16. A cooling unit 36 starts cooling of the molten metal 60 in the feeder head cavity 16 when both temperature and hardness, which are measured by the second thermocouple 24 and the displacement gauge 20 respectively, reach prescribed values. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
