The internal combustion engine has two cylinders, each having a piston (1,2) and a combustion chamber (6,7). The pistons move nearly synchronous in reference to their upper and lower dead centers. A feed unit is provided for feeding the fuel in one of the combustion chambers and for feeding the combustion air in the other combustion chamber. A connecting channel (16) is formed between the combustion chambers, which has a barrier (17).
