PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for suppressing the crevice corrosion of stainless steel used in a water solution and in a wet environment, and to provide a method for diagnosing the crevice corrosion of a water system. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a crevice corrosion suppression method for stainless steel characterized in that anions other than chloride ions are made coexistent in a water system at a mol concentration higher than the mol concentration of chloride ions in a water system, and, at least a part of the anions is sulfate ions. Also disclosed is a crevice corrosion diagnosis method for a water system characterized in that the concentration of chloride ions and the concentration of anions other than chloride ions are measured, and, based on the measured concentrations, in the case the mol concentration of the anions is lower than that of the chloride ions, it is determined that the water system has crevice corrosiveness, and at least a part of the anions is sulfate ions.
