A method and an apparatus for generating depth information and a computer readable recording medium in which a program for executing the method is recorded are provided to shorten a performing time and generate detailed depth information by using an element image. A recovery image is generated in a plane by imaging an element image group on planes through an image recovery transmitting body(S410,S420). The first recovery image is selected among the plurality of recovery images. The second recovery image is selected among the recovery images except for the first recovery image(S430). A main image corresponding to a distance in which the first recovery image is generated is generated by using the first recovery image and the second recovery image(S440). Depth information is generated by using the generated main image(S470).
