The invention relates to a security element for value documents, such as banknotes or identity cards, comprising a first security feature which is preferably a diffractive structure, especially a hologram. The security element according to the invention is characterized in that a second security feature is arranged in at least one section of the first security element and consists of at least one sub-wavelength grating, a blazed grating or a saw tooth grating. The second security feature consists of at least one perspectively distorted image which appears undistorted in the correct proportions when viewed under a viewing angle and in which the sub-wavelength grating, blazed grating or saw tooth grating is optically active. Under a different viewing angle, the second security feature appears hardly or not at all when compared to the first security feature.
