<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engagement chain type lifter attaining stable high speed lifting action without giving vibration to an article to be lifted by attaining the sufficient engagement state between a pair of lifting drive engagement chains by ascending-driving the lifting driving engagement chain in a uniform velocity state without generating vibration by suppressing polygonal motion of the lifting driving engagement chain, enhancing stopping accuracy of the lifting driving engagement chain, and attain the smooth engagement state of a roller with a sprocket tooth. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The engagement chain type lifter 100 includes a lifting table 110; a lifting sprocket 140; the lifting driving engagement chain 150; a drive source 160; and a chain guide plate 170. A tooth end surface of a front side in a rotation direction of the lifting sprocket 140 at ascending-driving is formed by an involute curve making a pitch circle P of the lifting sprocket 140 as a basic circle.
