<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for predicting the m/z value of a fragment ion in an MS<SP>2</SP>spectrum, which is obtained in the mass analysis of chondroitin (CH) or chondroitin sulfuric acid (CS) with optionally set sugar chain length and sulfuric group position, and to provide a method for readily identifying a sugar chain position and a sulfuric group position of CH or SC by mass analysis. Ž<P>SOLUTION: With respect to each of CH oligosaccharide, CSA oligosaccharide and CSC oligosaccharide, regularity of m/z value of a fragment ion which appears in MS<SP>2</SP>spectrum is found and mathematized. Furthermore, when the m/z values of the fragment ions of CH or CS with set sugar chain length and sulfuric group position, which is predicted by plugging numbers to the resulting mathematical expression, substantially match the actually measured value of the m/z value of MS<SP>2</SP>spectrum of CH or CS, with a unknown sugar chain length and sulfuric group position, the optionally set sugar chain length and sulfuric group position are identified as being the unknown sugar chain length and sulfuric group position of the CH or CS.
