摘要 PURPOSE: An in-plane switching liquid crystal display device with biaxial retardation film of a negative refractive index characteristic and a positive refractive index characteristic is provided to control retardation between a retardation film and a polarizer protection film, thereby realizing a wide view angle and high durability under a rapid temperature change. CONSTITUTION: A refractive index ratio(NZ) of the biaxial first retardation film(40) is -2.0<NZ<-0.7. A ground axis of the biaxial first retardation film is orthogonal to an absorbing axis(21) of the second polarizing plate(20). A refractive index ratio of the biaxial second retardation film is 1.3<NZ<4. The ground axis of the biaxial second retardation film(50) is orthogonal to the absorbing axis of the second polarizing plate. In a protection film of a liquid crystal cell(30) of the first polarizing plate(10), a retardation value in thickness direction is in the range of 0 to 10 nm at 589 nm wavelength. A visibility omni-directional maximum transmittance satisfies compensation relation less than 0.2%.
