<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane-electrode assembly for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell having both water retention capability and moderate diffusibility and especially showing excellent battery performance under low humidity conditions. <P>SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a membrane-electrode assembly having a structure where a high polymer electrolyte membrane is held by a pair of electrode catalyst layers comprises: an applying step of applying a catalyst ink including carbon particles carrying at least catalyst, a polymer electrolyte, and a solvent to one surface of a substrate and forming an applied film on the substrate; a drying step of removing the solvent on the applied film made of the catalyst ink applied on the substrate to form an electrode catalyst layer; and a transcription step of transcribing the electrode catalyst layer formed on the substrate to the polymer electrolyte layer. In the drying step, a contact surface of the applied film made of the electrode catalyst ink keeping in contact with the substrate is cooled, and temperature on the surface of the catalyst electrode layer is lower than temperature of an open space. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
