<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation film and a polarizing plate which have a small degree of extinction and contribute to improvement of contrast and to provide a liquid crystal display having improved contrast. <P>SOLUTION: The optical compensation film includes an optical anisotropic layer made of a composition containing a liquid crystallin compound, on a transparent support, wherein the transparent support includes a film containing a polymer having at least either of lactone ring unit or glutaric anhydride unit.
