<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor capable of preventing the fluctuation of an offset value by lowering the temperature of a second pumping cell. <P>SOLUTION: The gas sensor 200 includes a gas sensor element 10 having a first measurement chamber 16 between solid electrolyte layers 11a, 12a; a first pumping cell 11 comprising an inner first pump electrode 11c and a counter electrode 11b; a second measurement chamber 18 introducing measured gas controlled in oxygen partial pressure; a second pumping cell 13 comprising an inner second pump electrode 13b and detecting a specific gas component in the measured gas; and a heater 50. The heater 50 has a lead section 50a; a first resistance part 50bx higher in resistance than the lead section 50a; and a main heating section 50k having a second resistance part 50by arranged on the front side in the longitudinal direction from the tip of the first resistance part 50bx and higher in resistance than the first resistance part 50bx.
