PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently starting a plate reactor provided with a plurality of heat transfer plates, a catalyst layer formed between the adjacent heat transfer plates, and a heating medium flow passage for supplying a heating medium which is used for controlling the temperature of the catalyst layer and is a solid at normal temperature. SOLUTION: The plate reactor is provided with the plurality of heat transfer plates, the catalyst layer formed between the adjacent heat transfer plates, and the heating medium flow passage for supplying the heating medium which is used for controlling the temperature of the catalyst layer and is the solid at normal temperature. The start-up method of the plate reactor comprises the steps of: introducing a heating gas of 100-400°C into the catalyst layer and/or the heating medium flow passage to raise the temperatures in the catalyst layer and/or the heating medium flow passage to the solidification point or higher of the heating medium; and supplying the heating medium warmed to the solidification point or higher to the heating medium flow passage.
