The wheel brake (2) has a brake drum (5), a support (10) for brake shoes (6, 7) e.g. disk shoes, a spreading device (13), and a readjusting device (19). The readjusting device comprises an adjusting unit (20) and a readjusting unit (23) moved relative to each other during brake operation. The readjusting device has a release mechanism (28) that releases contact of the adjusting unit and the readjusting unit during increased brake actuation stroke. The readjusting device and spreading device are coupled to each other by a one side working towing connection (57).
