PURPOSE: A microwave oven and a controlling method thereof are provided to prevent moisture evaporation of the food by controlling a fan assembly inducing air circulation within the cavity. CONSTITUTION: A microwave oven and a controlling method thereof comprise a cavity(20), a heater(40) and a fan assembly(70). A cooking room is formed in the cavity. The heater heats the cooking room to cook and keep the food. The fan assembly forms the flow of the air circulating around the cavity in case the food is cooked inside the cooking room by the heater. The fan assembly is stopped in case the food in the cooking room is heated by the heater. A cooking room lamp is formed at one side of the cooking room. The cooking room lamp illuminates the inside of the cooking room in case the food is cooked inside the cooking room.
