<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic book wherein contents of a display screen are laid out and displayed in the same manner as a paper book so as to be easy to see and discovery of a story is selected in accordance with the change of display contents and is changed. <P>SOLUTION: Information including display information and display control information together is recorded in an external recording medium per page, and common display control information common to respective pages is extracted from the display control information and is stored, and a reading means, in response to each change indication of display contents, reads out display control information in the external recording medium for a selected page to extract display control information specific to the selected page in accordance with the change of contents.
