PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable alkaline battery enabling to effectively operate a safety valve when pressure in the battery rises even when the body diameter of a negative electrode collector is smaller. SOLUTION: An opening of a battery case 1 is sealed by a sealing unit 9 which has a negative electrode terminal plate 5, the negative electrode collector 6 bonded to the negative electrode terminal plate 5, and a gasket 7 in one unit. The gasket 7 has a boss portion 7a passing through the negative electrode collector 6, an outer periphery portion 7b contacting the opening of the battery case 1, and an annular portion 7c located between the boss portion 7a and the outer periphery portion 7b. On part of the annular portion 7c, the safety valve is formed which has a thin portion 8. The body diameter of the negative electrode collector 6 is≤1.8 mm. A flange 6a is formed at the end of the negative electrode collector 6. The ratio of the outer diameter of the boss portion 7a to the outer diameter of the flange 6a is≤4.0.
