<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device for reducing weight and cost by eliminating a protective panel, accurately detecting breakage of a glass constituting a display panel, and improving the safety. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image display device comprises a display panel 100 in which a surface panel 101 and a back panel 102 formed of glass are opposed with a predetermined space while sealing the circumference thereof. The device further comprises: a detection means (potential sensor 114) which detects a surface potential of the display panel 100, and a control means (anode voltage supply control part 303) which controls the power supply to the display panel 101 when the surface potential detected by the detection means is a predetermined value or more.
