SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL OF CONSUMER TRANSACTION RECORDS

A method of archiving receipts or transaction records at a point-of-sale, fo r subsequent electronic retrieval by the customer. A customer identifier is associated wi th an electronic copy of the transaction record and uploaded for storage to a serv er of a service provider. Various transaction records pertaining to point-of-sale transactio ns conducted by the customer can later be identified by the service provider using the customer identifier and either accessed online in a client server environment or downloaded by the customer to a local archive or software on their personal computer. Transaction records maintained by the service provider for the customer might either comprise images of paper transaction records, or might be electronic copies containing other metadata which could be used by the customer and their client software to perform various recordkeeping and filing functions. Transaction records from e-commerce transactions could also be accommodated.
