<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording playback device capable of displaying necessary information when a user selects a title of a recording program. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The recording playback device includes: a recording means for recording a plurality of program titles; an input means for instructing a display of the plurality of program titles recorded in the recording means; a character string analyzing means for analyzing a dividing position of each character string of the plurality of program titles when the display of the plurality of program titles is instructed; a character string comparing means for comparing the character string of the plurality of program titles analyzed by the character string analyzing means by the dividing position to discriminate a first portion in common with each of the plurality of program titles from a second portion other than that; a display position designating means for designating a display position of the first portion and a display position of the second portion in the plurality of program titles; and a display means for displaying based on the display position.
