PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly control idling by discriminating a discharged amount and charged amount of a battery using a simple means without spending much cost. SOLUTION: A welding generator 2 and a charging generator 21 are operated by an engine 1 that is started with a battery 23, for the use of a welding power source and a charging power source for the battery 23. Then, when a welding operation is suspended continuously over a specific time, idling of the engine 1 is stopped. In such an engine driven welding machine, electric current values are preliminarily set for a discharging current from the battery during the idling stop, for a current for starting the engine, and for a charging current by the charging generator 21. Then, until charging amounts converted on the basis of each set value, the idling stop time, and the engine operating time exceed the discharging amount, idling is not stopped.
