PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for encapsulating a metal hydride in a hollow glass sphere. SOLUTION: The method for encapsulating the metal hydride in the hollow glass sphere comprises the steps of: preparing the hollow glass sphere having a shell enclosing an inner volume; placing the hollow glass sphere in an enclosed chamber; evacuating the chamber so that negative pressure is present therein; exposing the hollow glass sphere in the evacuated enclosed chamber to an external element so that the shell affords for molecules to diffuse therethrough, wherein the external element is, in some instances, heat, infrared light and combinations thereof; preparing the metal hydride of a vapor state; exposing the hollow glass sphere-placed evacuated enclosed chamber to the vapor of the metal hydride so that molecules of the metal hydride diffuse through the shell into the inner volume; and removing the external element from the hollow glass sphere so that the diffusion of molecules through the shell is generally prohibited and the metal hydride in the hollow glass sphere is in a dense state.
