<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a translucent ceramic in which a problem of moisture resistance is solved; and both promotion of densification and suppression of reduction in thermal conductivity are achieved. <P>SOLUTION: The translucent ceramic comprises a solid solution in which a second component is dissolved in a first component. The first component is MgO. The second component is two or more elements selected from the group consisting of Fe, Ni, Co, Cu, Mn, and Zn, or a compound containing the elements.
