<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a motor capable of obtaining ease of operation and the operation feeling similar to that of a hydraulic drive system, preventing a torque of the motor from increasing abruptly when the operation terminal is operated abruptly, and controlling smoothly by suppressing generation of impact when an inertial body is operated to an output axis of a motor through a reducing mechanism having backlash or play. <P>SOLUTION: The controller for a motor is provide with: an operation detection means for detecting the quantity of operation by controlling the rotary drive of a motor operating an inertial body through a reducing mechanism having backlash or play by the operation of the operation terminal capable of varying the quantity of operation; and a motor control means for controlling the motor based on the value detected by the rotation detection means for detecting the rotation speed of the motor. The output torque of the motor is determined in a characteristic curve using the quantity of operation and the rotation speed as variable.
