PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery system which prevents life reduction due to secondary battery deterioration, firing, and leakage of liquid by stopping charge without fail at overheat, in a battery system which charges a secondary battery. SOLUTION: The battery system has multiple sets of battery packs 4; a charger 1 which charges the battery packs 4; and a control unit 2 which controls the operation of the charger 1. The battery pack 4 has a temperature sensor 6 and a temperature switch 5. The output of the temperature sensor 6 is input into the control unit 2 and the temperature switch 5 is connected to the charger 1. The control unit 2 stops the operation of the charger 1 when the temperature input from the temperature sensor 6 is at or over a first temperature. When the temperature of some battery pack 4 is at or over the second temperature, the temperature switch 5 corresponding to the battery pack 4 is opened, and operation of the charger 1 stops. A mounting detecting switch 12, which detects the mounting of the battery pack 4, is connected in parallel with the temperature switch 5, and it is closed when the battery pack 4 is not mounted.
