PURPOSE: An apparatus for rapidly reducing an exciting inrush current and a method for determining an optimum input resistor thereof are provided to perform an efficient operation of a power system by optimally determining an input resistor of an SFCL(Superconducting Fault Current Limiter) according to a property of the power system. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for rapidly reducing an exciting inrush current includes a power system and an SFCL(22). The power system includes a transformer(21). The SFCL is connected to the transformer. The SFCL reduces an exciting inrush current generated in the power system. An input resistor of the SFCL is calculated by using a change curve of the exciting inrush current of the power system and a change curve of a voltage drop. The change curve of the exciting inrush current of the power system and the change curve of the voltage drop are calculated by using a bus voltage and an exciting inrush current of the power system before the SFCL is inputted.
