The method involves applying an adhesive medium (16) in a rotational direction of a material web (2) infront of a winding gap (14) formed between a winding core (5) and a support drum (6). The adhesive medium is applied as a strip (17) on the web using a coating device (15) so that the winding gap passes through a region in which the winding core is provided with a recess (18) radially arranged on a circumference (19). The adhesive medium applied on the web intactly passes through the winding gap. An independent claim is also included for a winding machine for performing a method for conveying a continuous material web i.e. fiber web.
