PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner with which an image, having a high black color degree is obtained, stable charging performance is obtained hardly influenced by environmental conditions, and an image in a high-quality black color and superior in resolution can be stably obtained over a long period. SOLUTION: The black toner comprises black toner particles, containing at least a binder resin and black pigment particles containing a Na-Fe-Ti compound and a FeTiO<SB>3</SB>-Fe<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>solid solution. The black toner particles contain the following toner particles at 40 to 100 number%; particles having such a structure that in the cross-sectional observation of the black toner particles by use of a transmission electron microscope (TEM), 70 number% or higher for of the black pigment particles contained in each toner particle are present, in a region from the surface of the respective black toner particle to the depth as 0.2 time of the equivalent diameter of the projected image area.
